Scott Crampton reached another milestone in his illustrious coaching career as the head baseball coach at Lamar Community College.

Lamar Community College traveled to Scottsbluff, Neb. on Tuesday, April 21 to complete a four-game Empire Conference series with Western Nebraska that was interrupted and adjusted due to the weather last week.

The 'Lopes were coming off a sweep of the Cougars (5-4 and 6-1) on Saturday, April 18 at Merchants Park and riding a seven-game winning streak.

LCC saw the win streak end as they dropped the first game by a 2-0 decision to the Cougars.

The 'Lopes bounced back in win the second game behind a sterling pitching performance from Eli Thornquist.

The victory marked the 900th win for Crampton in his 22 years at the helm at Lamar Community College. His career record currently stands at 900-382.Thornquist, a sophomore left from Arvada, Co., pitched a gem as he fired a one-hitter to spark the 'Lopes to a 4-1 victory.

Crampton was at loss for words when asked about his 900th win.

"I really don't know what to say except that I've been here for a long time," he kidded. "Right now, I'm more excited about the conference race and us winning the conference. That's more of my priority."

"I'm disappointed that we didn't come away with a sweep on Tuesday instead of splitting," he said. "We're hanging in there in a four team race right now."

Otero Junior College leads the conference race at 19-9 with the 'Lopes close behind at 18-9. Trinidad State is 17-10 and Northeastern Jr. College is 14-10.

"We still have a lot of baseball to play with nine conference games left," said the LCC skipper, whose team moved from No. 19 to No. 15 in the country in the recent NJCAA baseball national rankings.
