(Lamar, Colorado;) Lamar's baseball team was in action again on Wednesday as they took on the Garden City Broncbusters in the first of a two-game series. The Lopes would pitch nine different pitchers in this nine-inning contest. The first inning was all the Lopes need to capture their sixth win of the season.
After surrendering a first inning-home run to Garden City's Conner Reynolds, the Lopes were able to get the run back and more. After a walk from Josh Crites, Jack Stamper belted a ball over the left field wall for his third home run of the season. The inning would continue with an Owen Reynolds single and a Kennedy Badgett double that would put the runners both in scoring position. Robert Santorelli flew out to centerfield for a sac fly. With two outs, Scott Savage tripled to right-center to score Badgett, and would score on a Sam Scarborough single.
The Lopes pitching staff gave up one run in consecutive innings without the offense being able to create more trouble on the base paths. With the score close at 5-3, the pitching staffs of both teams would control the rest of the game. Neither team scored in the fourth, fifth, or sixth innings. The Lopes were able to push across another run late in the seventh after an Ayden Karraker single scored Stamper to give the Lopes some insurance.
The Lopes pitched a scoreless eighth, and a scoreless ninth to give them their sixth victory in their first seven games. Christian Peery earned his third save this season, while Nick Rohacek earned his first win in his collegiate career.
