LCC competes in NJC tournament

The Lamar Community College men's golf team finished in sixth place this past weekend in Region IX play hosted by Northeastern Junior College.

The Lopes totaled a two-day score of 638, led by Joey Penovich and Robert Heiny.

Penovich finished the tournament tied for 10th place with a score of 156 (73-83). Heiny followed closely behind, shooting 157 (76-81).

Cesar Shinall finished the weekend with a score of 162 (88-74), Kyle Colen with 163 (84-79), and Geoffrey Kozlowski with 177 (89-88).

As a team, the Lopes finished with a score of 638 (+62).  They improved from 321 strokes on Thursday, to 317 on Friday. 

Eastern Wyoming College won the tournament with a score of 596 (+20), followed by McCook Community College (604) and Northeastern Junior College (609).  Central Wyoming took fourth with a score of 634 (+58) and Otero followed with a score of 635 (+59).

The team will travel to McCook, Nebraska, for their next tournament.
