The Runnin' Lopes softball team split in a two game series against Luna Community College on Saturday, February 20.
LCC battled hard but came up short in the first game, losing in eighth innings. Sophomore Baylee Patterson hit a two-run homerun for the Lopes in the bottom of the 7th inning, tying the game 7 to 7. Unfortunately, Luna put up three runs in the top of the 8th, and LCC only responded with one, making the final score 8 to 10.
Despite the loss, the Runnin' Lopes were able to make a strong come back in the second game, batting through the lineup and scoring six runs in the first inning. Sophomore Briana Medina-Martinez hit a two-run homerun to help build the lead against the Rough Riders, while sophomore Danie McFarland went three for four for the Lopes. In the circle, the combined pitching performance of sophomore Alyissa Parson and freshman Malea Orozco held the Luna offense to six runs. Parson was credited with the win in an 8 to 6 victory for Lamar Community College.
LCC is now 3-4 and will host McCook Community College in a four game series this weekend.
