Lamar Runnin' Lopes Stuns Colby Trojans in Instant Classic, 5–4
February 14, 2026
The Runnin' Lopes stunned Colby, 5–4, sealing the win in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the game tied at four a piece, Santiago Long delivered the decisive blow — a clutch single that brought the winning run across and sparked a celebration at home plate.
The Lopes set the tone early. In the bottom of the first, Brettelle ripped a two-run double to get Lamar on the board. An inning later, Marquez laced another double to extend the lead to 4–1, and the Lopes looked firmly in control.
But Colby refused to fold.
Clifford ignited the Trojans in the third, launching a towering home run to right field to cut into the deficit. The momentum slowly shifted, and by the top of the seventh, Colby had clawed all the way back. A groundout by Deblois plated the tying run, knotting the game at four and setting up a nail-biting finish.
On the mound, Gonzalez battled through five innings for Lamar, allowing three runs while working through traffic. When the game tightened late, the Lopes' bullpen rose to the occasion. Mejias Ramirez and Fitak combined to shut down the Trojans, keeping the score tied and giving Lamar the chance to win it.
Offensively, Brettelle led the charge with two RBIs and a two-hit performance. Heppner and Marquez also collected two hits a piece.
In the end, it came down to one swing — and the Lopes didn't miss.
