Lopes’ Lewis and Dunmyer Named to All-Region Team

Lamar Community College's Chris Lewis and Jon Dunmyer are capping off a good season and successful LCC basketball career by being named to the National Junior College Athletics Association Region IX Division All-Region teams.  Lewis was named to the First Team and Dunmyer to the Third Team.

Chris Lewis came to LCC from Frankford High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has played for the Lopes for two years.  During the 2015-16 season, he had 350 rebounds and is 

currently ranked seventh in the NJCAA Division I men's basketball for rebounds per game and for defensive rebounds.  He is also ranked eighth for total rebounds and fifteenth for offensive rebounds.  

"Chris has been a tremendous student-athlete for the two years he has been here," remarked Head Coach Serg Fenerci.  "He nearly averaged a double-double as a freshman with 8.2 rebounds and 8.1 points a game.  We knew he was going to be one of our leaders, and he definitely was. He was a floor general on defense for us with his communication skills and hard work. He has a very large amount of interest from Division 1 and 2 schools all over the county and he will make his decision on where he is going at the end of spring semester most likely. His leadership will be missed."

Jon Dunmyer is also wrapping up his second year with Lamar after coming to LCC from Tucker High School in Atlanta, Georgia.  During the 2015-16 season, he made 112 free throws out of 128, having an impressive percentage of 87.5%.  He ranks nationally for the NJCAA Division I men's basketball at tenth.  Jon lead the team this past season with the most assists at 82.

Coach Fenerci praised Jon's efforts as well, stating, "Jon has been a true example of a student-athlete, as he has success both on the court and in the classroom. He carries 3.1 GPA and led our team in scoring in the spring semester. He is getting several interests from Division 1 and 2 schools.  Wherever he ends up he will succeed. We will be missing his hard work and team-focused attitude."
