Men's Basketball Dominate Rival Otero Junior College 104–51 on Sophomore Night
Sophomore Night turned into a statement night.
The Runnin' Lopes of Lamar Community College delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Saturday, overwhelming rival Otero Junior College 104–51 in front of a roaring home crowd. With the win, Lamar stays firmly in the hunt for a Region 9 title, sitting in second place as postseason play approaches.
From the opening tip, the Lopes controlled the tempo, intensity, and scoreboard. Lamar's defense forced tough shots early, while the offense wasted no time heating up from beyond the arc and attacking the rim.
Balanced Attack Fuels Blowout
Lamar shot the ball efficiently all night, finishing:
- 12-of-26 from three-point range
- 22-of-27 from the free-throw line
The Lopes' ability to stretch the floor and capitalize at the stripe kept Otero on its heels throughout the contest.
Sophomore guard Jaylon Brown led the charge in a near triple-double performance, pouring in 27 points and grabbing 9 rebounds while shooting an efficient 8-of-13 from the field. Brown's aggressiveness set the tone early and energized the home crowd.
Ahmed Cisse added 14 points and 4 rebounds, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor, while LeDarius Jones chipped in 13 points and 4 rebounds on an impressive 5-of-6 shooting night.
RJ Foreman contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds, showcasing Lamar's depth, and Donovan Dabney filled the stat sheet with 8 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds, orchestrating the offense and keeping the ball moving.
Defense Sets the Standard
While the offensive numbers jump off the page, it was Lamar's defensive intensity that truly separated the teams. The Lopes limited Otero to just 51 points, contesting shots, cleaning up the glass, and converting defense into transition buckets.
The energy in the building reflected the significance of the rivalry and the importance of protecting home court on a night honoring the program's sophomores.
Region 9 Race Tightens
With the victory, the Lopes remain in second place in Region 9, keeping pressure on the top spot as the regular season winds down. Saturday's performance sent a clear message: Lamar is peaking at the right time.
